Full-Arch Dental Implants in Kelowna and Vernon
Missing most or all of your teeth, or have teeth that may no longer be maintainable? Full-arch dental implants can support a complete set of replacement teeth, providing an alternative to conventional dentures for suitable patients.
At Okanagan Oral Surgery, our oral and maxillofacial surgeons plan and perform full-arch implant surgery, including complex cases involving significant bone loss or failing teeth. We coordinate with your dentist or restorative provider to develop a treatment plan around your needs.
What Are Full-Arch Dental Implants?
Full-arch dental implants replace the teeth in an entire upper or lower jaw using several strategically positioned implants to support a complete set of replacement teeth.
The number and position of implants depend on your anatomy, available bone and the planned restoration. Treatment may involve one jaw or both.
Full-Arch Implants for Failing Teeth
You don’t have to be missing all your teeth to consider full-arch treatment.
Patients with multiple severely damaged or non-restorable teeth, sometimes referred to as terminal dentition, may also be candidates. Your dental team will assess whether existing teeth can be preserved before recommending extractions and implant-supported replacement teeth.
Fixed vs. Removable Full-Arch Implants
Full-arch restorations may be fixed or removable, depending on your anatomy, preferences and restorative needs. Your surgeon and restorative provider will help determine which approach is appropriate for you.
Fixed Implant-Supported Bridge
A fixed implant-supported bridge is attached to the implants and is not removed by the patient. Cleaning is needed beneath and around the restoration, along with regular professional maintenance.
Removable Implant-Supported Denture
A removable implant-supported denture attaches to implants using specialized connectors and can be taken out for cleaning.
All-on-4 and All-on-X Dental Implants
Not everyone requires the same implant configuration. Your surgeon will recommend an approach based on your individual needs.
All-on-4
All-on-4 uses four strategically positioned implants to support a fixed full-arch restoration in suitable cases.
All-on-X
All-on-X refers more broadly to full-arch implant treatment, with the number and arrangement of implants selected according to the patient’s anatomy and restorative plan.
Full-Arch Implants With Significant Bone Loss
Limited jawbone does not necessarily rule out full-arch implant treatment. Depending on your anatomy, additional surgical approaches may be considered.
Bone Grafting
Bone grafting may help rebuild or prepare areas where the available bone is insufficient for the planned implants.
Zygomatic Implants
For selected patients with significant upper-jaw bone loss, zygomatic implants may provide an alternative to conventional implants by anchoring in the cheekbone.
Okanagan Oral Surgery offers zygomatic implant treatment as part of its advanced implant reconstruction services. Your surgeon will assess whether this approach is suitable for your anatomy and treatment goals.
Your treatment journey
What Does Full-Arch Implant Treatment Involve?
Treatment is planned around your anatomy, oral health and intended restoration.
1
Consultation and
Assessment
Your surgeon reviews your medical history, remaining teeth and jawbone, using diagnostic imaging when appropriate.
2
Digital
Planning
Your surgeon coordinates with your restorative provider. Digital scanning, 3D imaging and virtual planning may help guide implant positioning.
3
Implant
Placement
Implants are placed using an appropriate anesthesia approach. Temporary fixed teeth may be possible in selected cases, while others require staged treatment.
4
Healing and
Final Restoration
Your surgical team monitors healing before your restorative provider completes the final replacement teeth. Ongoing maintenance is essential.
Frequently Asked Questions About Full-Arch Dental Implants
Can I Get Teeth on the Same Day?
Temporary fixed teeth may be possible for selected patients, but this depends on implant stability and the treatment plan. The final restoration generally follows a separate healing phase.
Can I Get Full-Arch Implants if I Have Bone Loss?
Possibly. Bone grafting, alternative implant arrangements or zygomatic implants may be considered depending on your anatomy.
How Long Do Full-Arch Implants Last?
Dental implants can function for many years with appropriate care, but longevity varies. The attached restoration may require maintenance, repair or replacement over time.
Do I Need a Referral?
No. You can request an assessment directly. We can also coordinate treatment with your dentist or restorative provider.
How Much Do Full-Arch Dental Implants Cost?
Costs vary depending on the surgical plan, number of implants, anesthesia, additional procedures and final restoration. Surgical and restorative fees may be provided separately.
Anesthesia and Recovery
Okanagan Oral Surgery offers local anesthesia and IV sedation, with general anesthesia available for selected cases.
Recovery depends on the procedures performed. Your team will provide instructions covering eating, cleaning, activity and care of the surgical area.
